What are You Looking for in a Relationship?

Not only is this a great starter question for a date. It's also a great starter question for a potential relationship. You're telling your date that you truly care about what they want out of this relationship, whether they know it or not. Their answer will tell you what you should be striving to do for them and show them in your relationship.

What Makes You Laugh?

This one gives you a few different insights into the person you're pursuing. It tells you what they find funny, what they like to do, and what kind of jokes you should be telling. Such an innocent question can help you understand whether or not your kinds of humor align with one another.

Where Do You Call "Home"?

Anyone can answer the usual generic question: "Where are you from?" However, it takes a little bit more introspection to think about what place you would feel lucky enough to call "Home". Whether it's their actual home, their college campus, a waterfall in their hometown, or anywhere in between, you'll get to see a side of them that probably only a few people get to see.

There's likely a great story as to why they picked that location. Use whatever story they tell to dig deeper and get to know more.

Who are the Most Important People in Your Life?

Priorities matter. It's nice to know who your special someone finds to be important in their life. They could be family-oriented. Perhaps they're really close to a celebrity. Maybe their best friend is a dog.

Whomever it may be, you'll get a great deal of insight into who your date spends time with and who they find important overall.

What's Your Dream?

This may sound like a loaded question, but just stick with us. Asking your date what their dream is will most likely lead to a larger conversation about the future and what they want to do in it. By having them daydream about how they want their future to look, you'll be able to show them how you could fit into it. Your dreams could align completely or complement each other from the opposite ends of the spectrum.

What Do You Do on a Typical Saturday?

If you're looking to gain insight into your date's personality type, this is a great question to ask. You'll be able to find out whether they're an introvert or an extrovert, a partier or a homebody, and much more. You may even discover a hobby or two.

Their typical Saturday may also clue you in on what kinds of dates you may have coming up in the future. If you could see yourself spending their typical Saturday with them, you might have found a keeper.

Where Did You Grow Up?

Alright, this one might be a basic question, but it is important. Knowing about and diving into someone's roots is vital if you want the relationship to thrive.

Sometimes, this question can be personal, but it's also a great way to show one another where you came from and how you got where you are. It's somewhat like a storybook. You'll get an inside look at the person's life journey up until this point.

Who Do You Call Family?

Yes, another potentially loaded question. However, you have to notice the wording. We're not asking whether or not your date still speaks to their parents. We're asking who they consider family, whether it be their parents, friends, pets, or anyone else. Understanding who their "family" is could let you in on what kind of person they are and who you may have to try to impress later. Try to remember as many names as possible.

What is the Most Interesting Job You've Ever Had?

A two-pronged question like this can get you insight into multiple aspects of your date's life. Here, you're going to find out first - what they've worked as in the past and second - what they find interesting. On top of this, you can follow up by asking how they got the job or whether or not they'd do the same job now.

What is Your Favorite Place?

Not only is this a great setup for a date idea. It's also a great storytelling question.

Usually, dates will answer this question with a saga about their experience at this location and a strung-out list of reasons that they love returning. Remember this place as you could use it as a date idea in the future or bring it up in casual conversation to get your date's attention on future date nights.

Which Fictional World Would You Want to Live In?

Is it "Friends"? "Grey's Anatomy"? "Game of Thrones"? Whatever their answer, you'll find out a ton about your date by asking this one question. And, you can get into a great discussion about whose answer reigns supreme! Plus, you might have a movie night for your second date.

What is the Hardest Thing You've Ever Done?

This question on our dating questionnaire can be funny or serious, depending on your date's personality, experience, and general understanding of the question. You'll either hear a funny tale about how she tried to open a pickle jar or a devastating story about how he buried his mother at the age of 12.

Either direction can make for a great discussion. If you want to avoid heavier topics, you could lead this question off as being light-hearted by starting off with a humorous answer yourself.

What is Your Guilty Pleasure?

This question could go in several different directions, but that's what's so great about this question. You get to see how your date interprets and answers questions based on these kinds of questions.

As we mentioned earlier, starting off the answers can help you steer the conversation in a certain direction. However, we suggest that you let some of these answers speak for themselves.

What is on Your Wish List?

Here, we have an open-ended question that can also lead to a list of amazing date ideas. In fact, you could make a bet that you'll both finish your date's bucket list together. That'll be sure to get them excited about a future with you.

The basic premise of this question shows whether or not you're willing to support your date in what they want to do with their life. If "become an MD" is on their list, have a study date. If "skydive" is on there, strap up your boots and make an appointment.

Of course, we recommend that you perform bucket list items within reason. However, we want you to step out of your comfort zone and have fun. Don't be afraid to throw some items from your bucket list in as well.

Do You Want to Meet Again?

Such a simple question can make such a big difference. Many first daters forget to ask for a follow-up date out of a fear of rejection. However, if you're feeling great about the experience, we want you to go for it! Ask if they want to meet again and make plans. It's likely that - if you don't make plans now - you'll be left without a date in the future simply because you both lost touch. Asking before leaving the date also provides material for future texts and calls. You'll have plenty of things to work out for your next adventure. Plus, you will already have the thing planned so you don't need to worry about hashing out details over the phone.
